Postgame 4/24 – Giants 6 Braves 9 F/10 :: Fear the Beard?

Well the only people who should be ‘fearing the beard’ right now are Giants fans. Don’t get me wrong, Romo and Wilson have been solid for the most part this year but both beards gave it away for the Giants today, especially Romo. Wilson, however; was almost able to pull a Rod Beck, Wilson being a strike away from escaping out of bases loaded no-outs.

What went wrong: The beards, I already covered it but they both combined to blow the game for the Giants today. Afelldt also gave up an absolute shot by Jason Heyward. No doubt about that one and Affeldt has struggled in the past two Giants games that have gone extra innings. Not much else to touch on, Sanchez was shaky at the onset of the game but he settled in with his pitch count being his worst enemy today. Overall not a terrible game for the Gmen but this loss did throw the Giants under .500.

What went right: That come back in the 7th inning after the Heyward shot was definitely something to build on as a team going into this long road trip. Four hits and a walk to bring the Giants 4 runs was really fun to watch and Miguel Tejada turned into someone else during his 7th inning at bat. Beautiful at bat by Tejada to coax the walk and Rowand came through in the clutch and drove in the go ahead runs. The 7th inning today may have been the only positive inning during this home stand but we just have to go with it and realize this team is still trying to fit everyone into the right place. Definitely need to tweak the lineup against the weaker teams we’re going to face on this road trip.
